Pauline Baynes, was an english Illustrator from 1922-2008, she’s worked for Puffin books. producing work for J.R.R Tolkien’s books including work on “The Hobbit”, she’s also done artwork for C.S Lewis’s series of Narnia books.
These are some of her illusrations from NARNIA which is something that was helpful during our research stage of our collabrative project. I really enjoy these peices and shes used LINE, SHAPE to create heavy monocromatic backgrounds, which to me really sets the scene of the piece and it almost feels dreamlike. I also enjoy the fact she fades the illustrations out to end them. She doesmt “just draw inside the box”
