I originally red this book because a friend recommended it. However it coinsiderd with our first project breifing, which was to authostrate a story on a main topic in the news, i chose Ebola.
I wanted to take the same twist on it that the maze runner book has, to make a comment on the way people are viewing ebola- like its some kind of ‘zombie infectious’ virus thats going to end civilization as we know it.
Overview of the book
post-apocolyptic sifi genre.
The book is through the eyes of a teenager named Thomas, who wakes up in an elevator with no memories. Hes pulled out by boys in a glade, who also have no memories, all they know is theyre in the safe center zone of a dangerous maze, they have been for 3 years- all they know is theres somebody watching them.. they call them ‘the creators’. And the creators want them to solve the maze.
The creators set up the maze, what the boys dont know at the start of the book is the maze is an experiment which a company called W.C.K.E.D set up. To see if these teenage boys could find the death cure so stop an apocolypic disease called ‘the flare’ thats wiping out the planet.

Writing style
The writing style of the book is descriptive yet easy to read, because of the targeted age range of the book (13-20 years of age) the book is descriptive, but not in an unecessary way, for example, the writer does concentraite on the scenery or dialouge, its the perfect balance, so you dont have to back track on what youve red or skip because you get bored.
an example:
“Thomas sighed; it was such a long story, and he didn’t feel like telling the whole thing. “You don’t know Gally, but he’s a psycho kid who ran away. He showed up, jumped on a Griever, and they all took off into the Maze. It was really weird.” He still couldn’t believe it had actually happened.”
its easy to read, and being dyslexic, it really helped being simple to read.this is how i wanted my short story about ebola to flow. so its easy to read yet descriptive enough to get the readers head filled with imagry, this book was a fantastic inspiration, and i shall be carrying on reading the whole series.
