I started this project with high hopes, because we were doing more personal projects, However i find myself asking people who ive worked with in the past for advise, because im used to doing so and its very helpful to have built up a relationship with a classmate enough to ask honestly for advise. And for them to answer with honesty on how you can improve!
I started in this new project by looking at the different ones i could pick, i decided to pick the project where you wrote and illustrated your own story, i wanted to write honestly about common issues that kids from 3-8 might not fully understand. And i wanted it to resinate with the parents also when they red it to their children.
So i created a rhyming limeric style story, inspired by Dr. Suess. Its a Pastiche to Depression. Rashionalising the idea of the mental illness into a monster, making it feel…Beatable.
Creating the actual main character was hard, because im not used to it and i couldnt picture what she looked like properly, so i just practiced different styles of drawing until i found one that suited “Merls” personality.. (Merl is the name of my main character)
