I got my inspiration from the book ‘olivia’ for my backgrounds, the backgrounds in that book are simple so the eye is drawn to the character. I was inspired by this, and started playing with the idea of simple designs, infusing them with my stitching, using multimedia techniques to create backgrounds, i started to collage together what Merls world, could look like!
Below is a photo of the finished first collage print of Merls bedroom, i used machine stitching, news paper and threads to create this, for the colour outside her room i used stitching and water colour, i wanted to create a world which merl saw as almost lifeless… yet the outside world was colourful, it was just merls perception that was black and white.
I feel, this draft went well, considering i was ‘playing’ i feel like i headed in the right direction.
