upon research, im leaning toward making my mask based on Bipolar disorder, which used to be called Manic Depression. i came across an artist that used her Bipolar disorder to create art:

missy suffers from Bipolar and she used this and painted for a year without taking her medication to show how bipolar feels through abstract brush strokes and colour. they are beautiful pieces of work, they inspired me to use these sorts of colours in my mask making work.
