Walking into the building, the smell of paint and pencil lead filled my lungs and brought back memories of studying at Eccles College, which is where i went to visit Lisa Walker, head of the arts department at Eccles College and an old tutor of mine also, i went to Lisa because i know she regularly does portfolio workshop and critiques with her students so i thought it would be more beneficial to me, because she has lots of experience!
On looking at my portfolio, she offered great advise on how my work should come across and translate to a client, she mentioned that the work should almost speak of itself, and i shouldn’t have to explain my work (unless the client is interested and asks about it) which we found it something i had to do often, so on this advise i know i need to work on the translation of my portfolio pages, i need to reorder, and take bits out and extent other projects to make it better and stand out more.
she said the work i had done on my more recent project about ‘young minds’ was the strongest, because of the multitude of techniques myself and Holly came up with and used to create the work, she said we should make more! and it should very much be the heart of my portfolio and be the biggest project i show. she said i could extend the project to multiple settings for a wider audience appreciation.

overall, this visit was fun and a good opportunity for me to hear good and bad points to make my portfolio better, she seemed excited for me and my future, and even said if she had a job going she would have given it me! (damn you college budget cuts!) which was a nice little confidence boost!
she asked to be kept in contact with for shows and exhibitions and overall it was lovely to see her!
